Biography
Cillian Murphy was born in 1976 in Ireland. For a long time, he worked as a singer, musician, and songwriter in the band The Sons of Mister. In the late 1990s, he became interested in acting and performed in theaters as well as short and independent films. His first cinematic role was in the 2001 film Disco Pigs. Murphy won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Independent Ourense Film Festival for this role. In the same year, he also appeared in episode 4 of the television series The Way We Live. He is best known for his work in Christopher Nolan’s films. His portrayal of Tommy Shelby in the crime drama series Peaky Blinders is one of his most memorable performances, earning him the Irish Film and Television Award in both 2017 and 2018. In 2020, The Irish Times ranked Cillian Murphy 12th on its list of the greatest Irish film actors of all time. In 2004, he met his wife Yvonne McGuinness during one of his rock band performances. They have two sons named Malachy and Aran. Cillian Murphy dislikes fame and rarely appears in television interviews. He remains passionate about music and occasionally plays and writes songs with friends or on his own. In 2015, GQ magazine included Murphy in its list of the 50 best-dressed British men. He follows a vegetarian diet.
