During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to oversee the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists develop the first nuclear weapons. The film explores his life, the Trinity test, the ethical dilemmas, and the political consequences including his 1954 security hearing.
